Reason #1: Blogging Requires Time and Effort.
You can’t just start a blog, upload some pictures, post an article or two each day if you want it to be successful. Like any business venture (online or elsewhere), blogging takes hard work – with no guarantee of success!
It’s estimated that 95% of blogs fail within their first year. Therefore, it’s important to take the time to do your research and figure out why YOU think starting a blog could be a good idea!
However, if you put in the time and effort to carry out research, take the best online courses about blogging and learn from your mistakes, then your blog will have a higher probability of succeeding.
Blogging is an investment and to guarantee success, keep working on your craft. Plus, one of the main reasons that bloggers fail is that they give up. If you want to see success, then you’ll have to see it through.

Reason #2: Stiff Competition
Starting a popular blog is tough competition these days. Everyone has access to free hosting through platforms like WordPress, Tumblr, and countless others… which means there’re more blogs than ever before competing for attention online. It’ll take lots of trial & error before your site gains traction amongst all the rest out there!
However, it’s estimated that over 70% of marketers admit they’re not keeping up with the increasing demand for content. Therefore, even though there’s stiff competition in your desired niche, there’s also an increasing need for rich and engaging content.
Your readers have questions that need to be answered, and it’s shown that your competitors are not stepping up. That means there’s room for you to grow in this niche.
To ensure that you’re choosing the best niche for you, you’ll have to research, research, research!
- Research your competitors and the content they’re producing
- Delve into the needs of your audience to see what their needs are
- See if your competitors’ content is meeting this demand
- Devise a plan to produce content with a unique value to your audience.
Reason #3: You’ll Need A Lot of Discipline
In order to be successful online, you need a lot of discipline. This means staying on top of marketing your blog every day and writing new content to keep it exciting for readers! If blogging is just something that interests you occasionally, why bother taking the risk?
You can use blogging as a hobby, or you can turn it into a profitable business. To ensure the latter, you’ll need to stay ahead of the latest trending topics, keep updated on the best tools and techniques and adapt.
Many times, I’ve decided to quit blogging and mostly focus on writing for my clients. However, the need to provide value to my readers has always drawn me back. Plus, I enjoy writing!
If you don’t enjoy blogging or don’t have the self-discipline to keep at it, then I don’t recommend that you start a blog. You’ll only be wasting your time and money.

Reason #4: You’ll Need to Invest Money
People often believe that you do not need to invest money in things like blogging; however, this is far from the truth. Blogging is an investment and to guarantee success, you may have to fork over a few bucks.
Don’t get me wrong, you can always start blogging with $0. But to become profitable and successful, you’ll need to invest some money into your business.
Reason #5: You’re Simply Not Ready for It!
I always say “talk to me when you’re ready.” And I mean it! There’s plenty of time in your life for a blog. When you’re ready, why not start a blog? Blogging should be a hobby or a business venture that you’ve planned out carefully before taking it on.
If you’re just sure, why should you take the risk? Plenty of other things to do in life that will be more productive. Like going on a vacation or taking up yoga!
Reason #7: You May Have To Do A Little Coding
You’ll need to learn some basic coding skills if you want any control over what your site looks like. Otherwise, anything from simple updates to major design changes will become incredibly expensive – which defeats the purpose of saving money by starting a blog in the first place!
Many times I had to dip into the code of my website to fix a few bugs and make a few aesthetic changes. Nothing too serious. And I only have basic knowledge of coding.
What I did was a search using Google for issues I’m having. And many experts were available to help me fix my problem, either through their blog, YouTube channel, or GitHub.
Reason #8: Make Money Online Blogging “Gurus”
When it comes to making money through blogging, there are thousands of “gurus” out there ready and willing to sell you a course (or twelve) about how they made millions online.
However… why should anyone listen to them? How can any course on marketing help if every blogger is doing something different? And why would someone pay for advice that’s freely available from successful bloggers all around the web?!
This is not to turn you into a skeptic, but mostly to open your eyes. Research these online courses and weigh if they’re what you need to start a profitable blog.

I must say you layout the 8 reasons you should never start a blog very nicely. Even though you gave the reason, you also gave a small indication why a person should blog. If a person doesn’t want to spend money, time or any effort for their blog in the first place, then they must forget having a blog site. A blogging website must be up to date regularly and have articles that is interesting and fresh. Not just any post everyone can find somewhere else. Thus, it takes commitment from the blogger to work on their site. But I must say, having a blogging website can change the way you work and actually improve your character if you are very determined to achieve success.
Hi Bernard! Thank you! And I agree with you blogging requires quite a ton of work, and a change in character is necessary for success. Let me know if you need help with anything ~Fran
